Took my DJI Spark out for another flight today, and the controller apparently disconnected. It wandered a bit, I tried bringing it back, to no avail. It went full-throttle (even though it was on “safe” mode, and should have stopped moving without direct input) sideways into a rock wall.
Still boots up fine, camera’s fine, but. There’s the small matter of the broken arm. Not sure it’s going to be worth repairing, as I can’t get support on the horn until Monday morning. Anyone have a similar experience? I’m super bummed.

I wrecked one worth 1o times as much. Just sitting there hovering watching the sunset through video goggles and all of a sudden it decided to go hard right and not respond to commands. Needless to say it went back to the factory in pieces under warranty and they spent a couple weeks rewriting code.
Just to be on the safe side it came back with enough parts to rebuild it twice and a whole bag of propellers. Overall not a great experience seeing as they eventually bought it back from me. Early days, no consumer stuff was on the market yet.

Well... I don’t think I’ll get the same kind of response.

Sounds like a job for some duct tape bro

I think this one’s gonna need superglue

Looks like it’s just a plastic chassis that broke off. Don’t know how much these cost, but if buying the chassis and transferring parts is all that’s needed, job should be easy.

Maybe that wasn’t quite as consoling as I’d hoped. Hope you can get it repaired.

you might. a buddy of mine recently had his spark go similarly apeshit and dji is repairing it and pulling flight data to figure out what went wrong.

Apparently my friend’s bro-in-law works for DJI... working on an in.

I repair phantom 3s and 4s as a hobby. Haven’t touched a spark yet but am very interested in them. Good luck and remember they are just a collection of parts. If they won’t repair it you can! Sorry to hear about your crash. I’ve crashed twice but both were user (me) errors...

Disconnects in flight have been a problem for decades. I lost my first r/c plane when it stopped responding and went into a shallow dive at full throttle. After the crash, the only pieces left that were bigger than my hand were parts of the wing and the tail.
Consumers today are spoiled. It’s become so easy to fly that people expect aircraft to be fail-safe. That’s an unreasonable expectation. If you fly, you’re going to crash. It’s just a matter of when and how.

Two types of r/c pilots: those who’ve crashed, and those who have yet to.
Thankfully, mine should be recoverable.

That’s the direction I decided to go— OEM parts from Amazon, less than $50. I did some startup and diagnostics on it, seems like everything’s working properly, so I’m gonna put it back together with the new parts and cross my fingers when it goes back up.
